Share Your Pride in PR
“Optimism doesn’t wait on facts. It deals with prospects. Pessimism is a waste of time.” Norman Cousins
Young PR pro’s - with this quote in mind, we’d like you to step forward and tell us all why you’re proud to be in PR.
Why Now?
Tony Bradley, President of Britain’s CIPR, tells us that Harold Burson (a bona fide legend of our profession) believes that now is the time to stand up for our profession. This view was preceded by our own Richard Bailey right here at Forward, a post which has since been gleefully supported by Stuart Bruce.
The PR industry cops a lot of flak, and there are many of us who are continually pushing for a ‘better’ PR. However - a lot of the criticism is unfounded, and there is always a need for optimism. While it makes sense to work to improve our weaknesses, every now and then we should acknowledge our strengths.
The experts can lead this discussion – but we can enthusiastically support it. So c’mon fellow young ‘uns – let’s harness our idealism and heed the call of our esteemed colleagues. You chose to follow a career in PR for a reason – so shout it loud and share it with the world!
We’ll be devoting an episode of the Forward Podcast to the topic, made purely from comments submitted by new PR professionals from around the world. Let’s unite as one across borders and vocalize our pride in our profession.
What We’re After
All we need is a short and sweet message about your pride in PR. We’d like to get as many young voices as possible on the podcast, so please send us a comment. Ideally your comment would last no longer than 3-5 minutes.
There’s no right or wrong answers! Tell us of your pride any way that you’d like – optimism, idealism and humour are always encouraged at Forward.
How To Submit a Comment
If you already know how to record an audio comment – go ahead and send an mp3 to me at young.paull@gmail.com.
Quick how-to: If you’re using Windows, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. (Depending on your version of Windows, that may vary slightly. But you get the idea.) Record your comment; the controls are pretty simple. When you’ve got your recording the way you want it, be sure to save the file as an mp3. It will probably try to save it as a wave file, but to save as an mp3 simply type that extension at the end of the file name. So you would type “yourfilename.mp3″ into the field for file name. Save it somewhere you can find it on your computer, and then send it to me as an email attachment.
You can also use Skype – call me or leave a message (paull.young) and I’ll record it for you. (Skype is free!)
If all this is too confusing – send me an email and I’ll work out how to contact you, or leave a comment below and I’ll read it for the podcast
If you can’t use email – I also accept snail mail, smoke signals, bicycle couriers and carrier pigeons… but unfortunately I can’t record them.
We look forward to hearing from you. This post started with a quote on optimism to help kickstart your thinking, I’ll end with another:
“Optimism is essential to achievement and it is also the foundation of courage and true progress.” Nicholas Murray Butler
