What type of salary are you expecting?

Many people often feel imtimidated when the subject of salary comes up in the job interviewing process. Salary negotiation will be discussed in a later blog, but I do want to talk a little about your responsibilitites if you want to receive a fair salary and avoid feeling as though you are being taken advantage of.

When you apply for a job, do your research right away. Go to a salary reporting website such as the following:

http://www.salary.com/salary/layoutscripts/sall_display.asp

or

http://content.salary.monster.com/

These websites allow you to research salary ranges for most jobs based upon geographic location. Simply select the career category which you would like to search such as “Public Relations.” Then select the geographic location of the job. One you search it will provide a more detailed listing of jobs based upon your career specification. This is where you will need to have researched the requirements of the job for which you are applying and kept documentation. The actual job titles may not match the job for which you are applying. Other times, the job titles may match, but the position responsibilitites, education, and experience requirements are different. Just be sure that you do not select a job simply based upon the job title. Do your best to match the job you select for salary reporting to that of the requirements for the job you are applying for and the job responsibiltities.
