Podcasts and PR

I was first introduced to the term podcast while in my Style and Design class. From that day on, I have come to learn even more about what all a podcast can do and what someone can enjoy doing with it. For those who do not know (and for me who is still learning), a podcast is basically a way for someone to make a digital recording of a program to be offered on the Internet for downloading to an audio player like an iPod. It is something that I think will continue to grow in popularity. For PR practitioners, it can be a great way to get their messages out to their publics. If a person held stock in XYZ company, he/she would be interested in what was happening with XYZ company. A PR practitioner could have a podcast for those stockholders as well as shareholders of that particular company. One of the best things that we can do as PR practitioners is to keep our publics informed.

Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson are two professionals that have a podcast, For Immediate Release, to discuss PR and technology for those interested. Just like with any personal blog, it is for those who are interested. If you are a potential PR practitioner, or already in the business, it is definitely a podcast that you will want to subscribe to. It is offered twice a week and offers helpful tips and ideas for you to use and work with. All in all, it helps you stay informed and up to date on technology that will make your professional life easier, and let’s face — it we all want that. Without a doubt, it’s worth listening in.
