I know — or i’ve heard — that it’s baaaad to send journalists emails with press releases as attachments. Well, unless you get permission beforehand. But how does this translate into a tip for the job hunt?
So attachments are a pain, and you want to make things as painless as possible — and hopefully rather pleasant — for whomever you’re sending your cover-letter email and resume to … so I ask, does that no-attachments recommendation apply to employment inquiries?
I have my resume online, so it’s easy for me to link to my own site (or even my resume PDF) from the body of any email. But will that just confuse the person I’m sending it to because they’re used to looking for an attached resume?
Let’s dispel some rumors and clear the confusion. What do the professionals think?

Time for a little role-play…
The 2006 Winter Olympics are over. Did anyone notice? Did anyone watch?
Nielsen ratings for the games were down four points, or 20 percent, from the Nagano Games of 1998. There were three million fewer viewers compared to the Salt Lake City Games of 2002. So what happened?Was it the time delay? Do people not care about the Olympics anymore? Is it the lack of a rival for the U.S., i.e. the old Soviet Union? Or is it the internet and the ability to be in-the-know about the Games and still watch American Idol at night? These are just some of the questions that loom large after the Turin Games.
So, you are the head PR person for the United States Olympic Committee. The 2010 Games in Vancouver are four years away. What are you going to do to promote the Games and get them back in the forefront of the American consciousness? What kind of message are you going to craft? What type of publicity are you going to need? How can you re-kindle the excitement? As they say in the NFL Draft–you’re on the clock!
